Zoning

The need for land use zoning of the township was recognized when the Woodville Township Trustees established a Zoning Commission in February, 1966. The unincorporated areas of the township were “zoned” based on current and potential usage, and the proposed plan was placed on the ballot and passed by a large majority of residents’ votes. The zoning plan included the establishment of a Township Zoning Inspector and a Zoning Appeals Board.

The Township Zoning Inspector is accountable to the Township Trustees for the administration and enforcement of the Zoning Resolution. The Township Trustees adopted zoning rules and regulations as a “Resolution” that is routinely reviewed by the Zoning Commission and updated on an as-needed basis.

The Zoning Commission functions as a sub-committee of the Woodville Township Trustees. The Zoning Commission meets on the 2nd Wednesday of every other month beginning in January. The Commission discusses current zoning issues and concerns, and gives their recommendations to the Township Trustees when amendments (changes) to the zoning resolution are needed. The Zoning Commission and the Township Trustees conduct public hearings on any proposed amendment to the zoning resolution to hear resident concerns and opinions prior to the final enactment of any amendment.
